Plan With Urgency

Being in a hurry is bad.

Chronic stress is bad.

Pineapple on pizza is bad, OR IS IT???

Gotta love Estonians for putting pineapple on all kinds of pizzas.

You hate urgency.

You feel like urgency is bad.

You hate feeling in a hurry.

But there is one situation when it's good to have urgency: when you are planning.

Obviously when you are deeply present, in the zone, in the flow state, or simply having fun, your sense of time disappears and you don't feel in a hurry.

And that's great.

You want to be like that all the time.

Except when you are planning.

Stoics know the value of time and often remember the shortness of life.

Pearson's law is common knowledge. Everybody knows that if you give yourself too much time, you will procrastinate.

Deadlines give you pressure and positive stress.

To be in the flow, the task needs to be challenging. And the time variable can easily make your task more challenging.

A good goal is specific, challenging, with a time deadline.

So when you are planning, it's good to feel a little uncomfortable, a little under pressure, with a feeling of urgency.

It's okay to feel in a hurry when planning.

Plan with urgency.
